Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) are both way ahead of other technologies. However, they aren't only powerful as their own entities. In fact, IoT and AI can complement each other to make the workplace of tomorrow possible today.

Firstly, it's worth pointing out that the two have a lot in common. For starters, there is a demonstrable overlap in terms of the intent behind both IoT and AI. The two deal with getting the most out of machines today. More specifically, they can work hand-in-hand to help you get key insights from data.

Another common factor is that the two are in great demand across basically every industry today. With these both being the technologies du jour, it's no wonder that the industry is exploring combining the two.

A powerful pairing

Businesses rely heavily on IoT to generate data. However, as the number of IoT devices in the enterprise grows, so does the volume of data generated. While this is great news for insights, enterprises could end up feeling as though they'd bitten off more than they could chew. To combat this sheer volume, businesses need AI.

In particular, machine learning can draw insights from data quickly. In doing so, it can identify trends and anomalies and eliminate the need for human review. Furthermore, by taking humans out of the equation, you also mitigate risk of human error when dealing with your data patterns.

Not only that, but, of course, AI will be a lot quicker than humans throughout the processing of data. This way, organisations can get to their insights and act on them at speed. For example, a company looking to monitor employee productivity could use a combination of IoT and AI to record and assess performance based on a number of variables.

By having more meaningful and immediate insights, organisations can up their productivity at much more ease. Thus, the powerful combination of AI and IoT make for a real game changer in business.
