BBC reports that BlenderBot 3 — the company’s chatbot that uses AI to speak on a majority of topics — said what it had to say about CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg.

According to the outlet, the chatbox stated: “He did a terrible job at testifying before congress. It makes me concerned about our country,”

It also added: “Our country is divided and he didn’t help at all. I’m concerned for us all.”

Meta said the chatbot may produce rude or offensive answers, due to it only being a prototype.

Meta said the chatbot may produce rude or offensive answers, due to it only being a prototype.

The company has under scrutiny making an effort to prevent the spread of false information, and hate speech on their platforms. Frances Haugen, a former employee, accused the company of prioritising company profits regardless of outcome for online safety.

Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, some of the biggest social media platforms and messaging services in the world, are all owned by the company.

Meta has tried install safeguards around the AI Bot, although the chatbot could still be offensive to some users. With this in mind, it’s noted that its algorithm learns its views and answers from Internet searches.

According to the BBC, a Meta spokesperson said: “Everyone who uses Blender Bot is required to acknowledge they understand it’s for research and entertainment purposes only, that it can make untrue or offensive statements, and that they agree to not intentionally trigger the bot to make offensive statements."
