OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT and DALLE-2, quietly changed the core values it operates with on its website.
The most notable change includes putting a greater emphasis on the development of AGI (artificial general intelligence). OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has previously described AGI as "the equivalent of a median human that you could hire as a co-worker".
As reported by Semafor, OpenAI's new core values place "AGI focus" on top, followed by Intense And Scrappy, Scale, Make Something People Love, and Team Spirit.
These replaced Audacious, Thoughful, Unpretentious, Impact-Driven, Collaborative and Growth-Oriented.
ChatGPT's record breaking month
The move comes as ChatGPT's mobile app hit a record $4.85M in in September.
Indicative of a clear continued interest in the business and recreational applications of generative AI, the ChatGPT app also hit a record 15.6 million downloads in the same month.
That being said, ChatGPT’s revenue has shown signs of slowing down. A growth of 20% in September was down from 39% in August and 31% in July. Slowing revenue growth could be the first indication that ChatGPT is nearing saturation in terms of how many mobile users are willing to pay for the upgraded ChatGPT+ service, reports TechCrunch, with a hefty $19.99 monthly in-app purchase potentially driving more casual new users away.
It’s worth noting that these numbers don’t paint a full picture of generative AIs take-up in the market. Every household name from Slack to Google Docs to Canva has some form of generative tool, and ChatGPT isn’t as dominant as it once was.
