As part of their annual ‘The Check Up’ event, Google announced a slate of updates to AI offerings dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes.
This includes updates to their Co-Scientist AI that has already proven itself able to accelerate solving scientific mysteries.
They also launched the new Medical Records APIs globally in Health Connect. This means selected apps are able to access and write medical record information like allergies, medications, immunizations and lab results. The aim is to streamline connecting your everyday health data with medical data from your doctor.
Google also received approval from the FDA for their Loss of Pulse Detection feature that links to the Pixel Watch. If the watch detects a loss of pulse that indicates primary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning it is able to prompt a call to emergency services for potentially life-saving care.
What is ‘What People Suggest’ in Google Search?
Google's new Search feature ‘What People Suggest’ aims to provide users with information and suggestions drawn from the experiences of other people who have faced similar health issues.
Google’s thought process behind the feature comes from its acknowledgement that as well as seeking expert, reliable information its users are searching for community in terms of hearing from others with similar health experiences.
What People Suggest will appear as a feature on the usual search engine result page. Google’s AI will ‘organize different perspectives from online discussions into easy-to-understand themes, helping you quickly grasp what people are saying.’
What People Suggest is currently available on mobile devices in the U.S. exclusively.
