IWD Podcast: Unconscious or implicit, they mean the same thing #BreakTheBias
Today is International Women's Day (IWD) 2022, and as always, we want to make sure we're raising our voices in support. The theme of this year's global celebration is #BreakTheBias. Whether it's called conscious or unconscious, implicit or explicit, bias significantly contributes to a lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and, in the case of IWD, to the discrimination and stereotyping of women.
It's time to #BreakTheBias in tech
The tech industry has been especially under fire for its role in gender inequality and bias against women. Issues such as harassment, gender pay gap, sexism, and the gender imbalance in seniority have been prevalent for many years. Many of today's companies are, however, attempting to change the status quo and provide answers to the ongoing, pressing matter of 'How can we eliminate gender bias in tech?'.
In this very special podcast, we discuss collectively breaking bias and forging women's equality in tech with the team at O'Reilly Media. Continuing our conversation from last year on '#ChooseToChallenge', EM360's Comms Manager, Ashley Fontaine, speaks with Mary Treseler, Alexia Pedersen, and Rachel Roumeliotis about:
- the current state of women in tech
- what inequalities women in tech are facing today
- what organisations need to do to tackle women's inequality in 2022 and beyond
- how remote/hybrid working impacts women in tech's career trajectories
- how O'Reilly is pushing ahead with equality in tech
